My direct surroundings and my personal space is very important to me, it is something that I cherish. Even in our 275 sqft tiny living quarters I created a space for myself.
I am inspired and influenced by what directly surrounds me, it fuels my creativity and my energy. This is one of the things that has guided a more minimalistic lifestyle. I am very intentional with the things I place around myself, everything serves a purpose in some way even if it is to simply inspire me.
Our home is truly a sacred space, it's not the house itself but how we manipulate the space around us.
We have lived in a house that needed more love than we could provide, we have lived in a beautiful home but it lacked warmth and invite, we have created our own home in our tiny space which we adored for almost 4 years and now in our loft apartment. Soon we will be embarking on a new way of life and living in a way that we thought would be something in our distant future. What do all these spaces have in common though? I made an effort to make them my own, even if it was just in the corner of a room. I created a space, A place for myself to go, to be filled and refreshed.
I am very eclectic, minimalistic and bohemian if you could imagine all of those things blended together. Mine and Cody's choices in décor and esthetic are as night and day as we are at times but we mesh them well.
I am also greatly affected by nature and venture into it as often as possible, It is truly where I connect to God. Resting in creation, focusing on the creator and how we can have a personal and intimate relationship with Him. That is where my heart belongs, and where my peace is. Your sacred space may not always be an interior one.
But your space is so much more than what you physically fill it with or even a physical space at times, Your space is also your circle, your relationships and the people you allow closest to you. We all daily come into contact with people who we don't really mesh with, we don't enjoy their presence and some can even drain us, effecting us in a negative way. That is why it is so important to create and be in control of your personal space, We reflect the people closest to us, even when we don't realize it. We not only can reflect them, projecting a different image but they can also greatly influence us. It is so easy to absorb negative perspectives and mindsets when we are surrounded by a constant flow of negativity.
We need to be more aware of our physical surroundings but also conscious of our emotional and spiritual ones as well, Protecting our heart, ears, eyes, mind, and spirit from harm. In the bible Jesus had an inner circle, He also went to specific places to pray and gather before God, Those were sacred spaces to Him, I am sure they had great purpose. That's why I believe it is so important to create a sacred space, Whatever that looks like for you. It can be your dining room table where you study Gods word, your bathtub where you unwind, reflect, and practice gratitude, a place in nature that you venture to, or even an entire room dedicated to yourself and your time with your creator.
Become more mindful of what you surround yourself with, Create a space that feeds into you and sparks your spirit. Be aware of the people that you allow to influence that space, What are you absorbing in those relationships and what are you reflecting. Create that space for yourself where you go to be refreshed and restored. That place where you are at your most true and raw form, Where you can be open and vulnerable. Find that space, create that place and cherish it.
